Nigel Havers and Sue Nicholls as Lewis and Audrey in Coronation Street / ITV
Nigel Havers has joked that he could make a shock return to Coronation Street after almost eight years.
The veteran actor, 74, played conman Lewis Archer on the soap from 2008, appearing sporadically over the years before being killed off on New Year’s Day 2019.
In a tragic twist, Lewis had finally appeared to see the error of his ways and was discovered dead, clutching an engagement ring, by love interest Audrey (Sue Nicholls).
Havers told The Mirror: “Sue Nicholls said to me, ‘Do you know you had a twin brother living in Australia?’ I said, ‘Good gracious, who knew?’ It would be a riot, wouldn’t it? So never say never.”
He added: “I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of making that show. The team, the crew, they’re just amazing, a really great family.
“I still owe the Platt family a few grand. When I was in Corrie, people used to shout at me, ‘Pay Audrey back that 25 grand you owe her!’ They were very cross.”
Havers can next be seen in the Swedish heist drama Golden Boys, streaming on Viaplay from Monday.
