Jane Hazlegrove as Bernie Winter in Coronation Street / ITV
Jane Hazlegrove has agreed a new deal to remain as Bernie Winter on Coronation Street for at least the next 12 months.
News of the actress’s contract extension comes despite a string of cast departures over the last year as the ITV soap is forced to trim its budget.
First appearing in July 2019, Bernie has become a strong matriarch of the Winter-Browns with kids Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Kit (Jacob Roberts) and has also become involved with the Alahans via her impending marriage to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin).
Speaking to My Weekly, Hazlegrove revealed: “I only came into Coronation Street for 10 episodes to get a new bathroom.
“I’d run out of money and when they said, ‘Will you come and do Corrie for a bit?’ I thought, ‘Yes! That will pay for a nice white suite!’
“I’ve been here for six years now and I’ve just signed for another year. It’s a lovely place to work. I feel very blessed.”
Bernie and Dev’s big day arrives on next week’s episodes of Coronation Street – Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7am on ITVX and 8pm on ITV1.
