PARG has won Depi Evratesil and will now go on to represent Armenia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
The indie-folk singer – full name Pargev Vardanyan – beat off competition from 11 other entries in the national selection contest, the first in five years, and finished second among the juries but first among the public vote to secure overall victory.
The winning song ‘Survivor’ was written by PARG and a team including Eurovision songwriting legend Thomas G:son, who has previously co-written the winning entries ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Tattoo’ for Loreen.
Armenia’s best placing at Eurovision has been two fourth-place finishes, in 2008 and 2014, while last year they finished a respectable eighth with Ladaniva and their song ‘Jako’.
