Mid-Century Modern / Disney
Mid-Century Modern has been axed after just one season, co-creator Max Mutchnick has revealed.
The sitcom – dubbed a male version of The Golden Girls – starred Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham and the late Linda Lavin and followed the lives of three ageing gay men who moved in with one of their mothers.
The show was the brainchild of Will & Grace creators Mutchnick and David Kohan and premiered on Hulu in the US – and Disney+ internationally – in March with a first season that ran to 10 episodes.
Breaking the news of the cancellation on Instagram, Mutchnick wrote: “Ten great episodes… Not enough. But we loved making every single one of them. We’re gonna miss our very special show. Thanks to everyone who watched.”
The comedy also marked the final project of veteran actress Lavin, who died of lung cancer in December and had pre-emptively asked the creators to write her character’s death into the show.
