Disney Jr is to make a surprise comeback as a linear TV channel in the UK and Ireland more than five years after it closed down.
The channel, which is aimed at 2 to 7-year-olds, debuted in 2000 – initially under the name ‘Disney Playhouse’ – but closed down on October 1, 2020 following the launch of Disney+ earlier in the year.
The station has been testing on Sky for the last few weeks and now the operator has confirmed that it will officially relaunch next Thursday, November 13 on Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
Disney has yet to officially announce the relaunch and it is presently unclear whether the channel will also be available via Virgin Media or other platforms.
Programmes in the Disney Jr schedules include Marvel animations featuring Spider-Man and Iron Man, the international phenomenon Bluey and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+.
