One of Coronation Street's most legendary characters, Gail Platt, has departed the cobbles after 50 years.
Earlier this year actress Helen Worth, 73, announced that she would be leaving the soap as she reached the milestone of five decades in Weatherfield.
Best known to audiences as Gail Platt but also variously known as Gail Potter, Gail Tilsley, Gail Hillman, Gail McIntyre and Gail Rodwell, the matriarch of the Platt family left with her latest moniker - Gail Chadwick - as she eventually decided to marry her love interest Jesse (John Thomson) and head off for a new life in France.
A poignant final episode began with a dream sequence that saw her reunite with serial killer ex Richard Hillman (Brian Capron), which convinced her to go through with the wedding, before she made amends with her mother and best friend Audrey (Sue Nicholls).

At the wedding, her son David (Jack P Shepherd) gave a best man speech in which he emotionally referred to her as "mum" rather than "Gail", while she also shared individual goodbyes with daughter Sarah (Tina O'Brien) and eldest son Nick (Ben Price).
Finally, having said all of her farewells, Gail was driven away in a taxi with husband Jesse as her family waved her off in tears.
