The identity of Cindy Beale's Christmas Day attacker is to be revealed during EastEnders' 40th anniversary week, it has been confirmed.
Two explosive episodes culminated with Cindy (Michelle Collins) being hit over the head with a shovel after her affair with Junior (Micah Balfour) was exposed in the Queen Vic.
Viewers were kept in the dark about who Cindy's assailant was, but now it has been revealed that they will be unmasked during a special week of episodes in February to mark the soap's milestone birthday.
A newly-released image offers a look at the potential suspects - husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt), ex-husband George (Colin Salmon), George's wife Elaine (Harriet Thorpe), Junior, her son Peter (Thomas Law), Peter's partner Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), her mother-in-law Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and her daughters Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna (Molly Rainford).
EastEnders' outgoing executive producer Chris Clenshaw said of the storyline: "Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy's attacker as part of this.
"Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience can look out for clues themselves to who may be the culprit.
"Cindy's attacker reveal is just one of many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember."
Other storylines planned for the special week are a huge fire tearing through the Queen Vic, an interactive love story chosen by the viewers and the potential return of yet more past characters.
EastEnders continues Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
