Dawn Hope has joined the cast of Hollyoaks playing newcomer Pearl, a character with a connection to Walter (Trevor A Toussaint).

Pearl is the best friend of Walter's late wife Gloria and is described as "adventurous", "gregarious and forthright" and arrives in the village to reminisce and reconnect with the Deverauxs.

Hope has previously appeared in Coronation Street as Alison, the mother of Tyrone's then-girlfriend Kirsty, while she has also appeared on stage in Follies and Little Shop of Horrors.

Speaking about her new role, Hope said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be introducing the fun-loving Pearl, with her vibrant and stylish energy, as I join the warm and welcoming Hollyoaks team."

Pearl's first appearance will come in E4's first-look episode on Thursday, September 9.
