ITV sends Alison Hammond back to school

This Morning's Alison Hammond lands her first primetime gig at ITV as part of Black History Month.

Alison Hammond will present her first primetime documentary for ITV as part of Black History Month in October, it has been announced.

The one-off Alison Hammond: Back To School will see the This Morning presenter travel to iconic British locations such as Hadrian's Wall and Hampton Court to tell their history from a different angle.

Describing the show, ITV said: "Revelatory and personal, the journey will uncover black figures throughout the ages who have been overlooked from the pages of British history and school textbooks.

"Alison will be given an insight into the significance of black people in Britain's history by experts who open her eyes to a new perspective on our country's past and will explore our current teaching of history in schools."

The programme is just one of several commissions from the broadcaster to mark Black History Month, with a four-part comedy panel show called Sorry I Didn't Know also on the slate.

The series is described as "bold, tongue-in-cheek and unapologetic" and will feature comedians exposing and "embracing" their lack of knowledge about black history.

Also in the lineup are Charlene and Friends, a kids show from popular news presenter Charlene White, and Black Comedy Legends, a one-off celebration of the best black comedians of our time.
