Manchester City's 3-1 victory against Club Brugge on Wednesday evening ensured that they will play either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in their Champions League round of 16 playoff.
The final round of fixtures in the inaugural league phase of the Champions League concluded on Wednesday, with Liverpool topping the table despite losing 3-2 against PSV Eindhoven and qualifying automatically for the round of 16.
Arne Slot was joined by Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery in the round of 16, with both Arsenal and Aston Villa finishing in the top eight and qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City had to settle for a round of 16 playoff spot having finished 22nd, but they now face a difficult task to reach the next round, with either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid awaiting the English champions.
The official knockout phase playoff draw takes place on Friday, and it is then that the qualified Premier League side's will have their possible opponents narrowed down further.

Who will Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City play?
Though Liverpool finished first in the league phase, they could face a challenging test against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16, with Monaco, Brest or Benfica the other three potential opponents that the Reds may play.
Meanwhile, Arsenal could be drawn to take on Juventus depending on the outcome of their playoff clash and Friday's draw, but the Gunners could also face Feyenoord, AC Milan or PSV Eindhoven.
Aston Villa finished eighth and now know that they will take on either Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon, Club Brugge or Atalanta, the latter of whom won the Europa League last term.
Should Man City come through their playoff clash unscathed, a match against Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen awaits them.
Manchester City could meet Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while Liverpool and Aston Villa could also meet in the last eight, but the first two are not able to meet the second pair until the semi-final.
