Arsenal are allegedly monitoring any developments with a 17-year-old who has recently made the breakthrough into the squad of a League Two club.

Arsenal have reportedly identified an EFL starlet as a potential transfer target for the future.

The Gunners' immediate priority is trying to gain an advantage over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final which takes place on Tuesday night.

However, with Andrea Berta having recently been appointed as the club's new sporting director, a certain level of focus is being placed on plans for the future.

Strengthening the senior squad with at least one new central midfielder and centre-forward are at the top of Arsenal's to-do list ahead of the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, according to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are seemingly considering whether to add another youngster to their ranks.

Another Wright in Arsenal colours?

The report suggests that Salford City starlet Will Wright is gaining admirers behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite being just 17 years of age, Wright has already accumulated 80 minutes of senior football for the League Two club.

In quick succession at the end of February and start of March, Wright featured for 67 minutes across fourth-tier matches against Port Vale and Bradford City.

Prior to that, Wright was given the closing three minutes of Salford's 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Although he has since remained as an unused substitute under Karl Robinson, there are hopes that the teenager can progress into a regular over the coming seasons.

That said, Salford are naturally at risk of being inundated with offers for the prospect, who has also scored more than 40 times for the academy sides.

What is Wright's best option at this stage?

The report adds that the likes of Leicester City and Birmingham City are also tracking Wright ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wright's camp will be realistic that appearances for any of the aforementioned trio is remote at this stage of his development.

Nevertheless, they will want to identify a pathway to the first team if he is to agree to a move in the short term, particularly when Salford are facing the prospect of another campaign in League Two.

While Salford's position with the EFL's financial regulations would substantially improve with a windfall for Wright, they may look to convince him that a first senior contract of his career and an increase in minutes is the best way to go.
