Manchester United must be victorious in each of their final seven league matches of the 2024-25 campaign in order to beat their previous lowest tally in a Premier League season.

Manchester United need to be victorious in each of their final seven league matches of the 2024-25 campaign in order to beat their previous lowest tally in a Premier League season, which came back in 2021-22.

The Red Devils only picked up 58 points from their 38 league games in 2021-22, which saw them finish sixth, and that is currently their worst-ever Premier League campaign in terms of points.

However, it is highly likely that will be broken this term, as a total of 38 points from 31 matches has left the 20-time English champions down in 13th spot in the Premier League table.

Man United have seven games left and can therefore claim a maximum of 21 more points, which would move them onto 59 points.

The Red Devils therefore need to be victorious in each of their final seven Premier League games in order to avoid an all-time low in terms of a return of points in a single Premier League campaign.

Man United are down in 13th spot in the Premier League table

Man United will enter Sunday's clash with Newcastle off the back of a 2-2 draw with Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night, with the return fixture taking place at Old Trafford next week.

Ruben Amorim's side will face Newcastle, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth, Brentford, West Ham United, Chelsea and Aston Villa in their final seven league matches of the campaign.

However, they could also have four more matches in the Europa League before the end of the season, potentially a two-legged semi-final against Athletic Bilbao or Rangers ahead of a possible final at San Mames.

How disappointing have Man United been in the Premier League this term?

Man United have a record of 10 wins, eight draws and 13 defeats from their 31 Premier League matches, while the fact that they have a minus four goal difference is an indication of their struggles.

Indeed, the Red Devils have only scored 37 times, conceding 41, while they are 16 points off fifth-placed Aston Villa in the table.

As a result, it is almost impossible for them to qualify for next season's Champions League via the Premier League, but success in the Europa league this term would see them qualify for Europe's top competition for 2025-26.

Amorim is expected to make changes to his side on Sunday ahead of the second leg against Lyon, with goalkeeper Andre Onana believed to be in danger of losing his spot after a tough night in France last time out.

The Man United head coach also suggested in his pre-match press conference that he would consider resting captain Bruno Fernandes ahead of the team's biggest match of the campaign.
