Timothee Chalamet and girlfriend Kylie Jenner reportedly left their seats for an hour during Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony.
The 30-year-old had high hopes of securing his first Academy Award, having earned pundits for his role in table tennis movie, but was beaten to the accolade by Sinners star Michael B Jordan.
The result came after Chalamet faced a torrent of negative publicity and criticism from fellow industry professionals in recent weeks for his derogatory comments about the appeal of ballet and opera.
Oscars host Conan O’Brien pulled no punches during the ceremony, making multiple references to the actor’s faux pas, and according to The Sun, Chalamet then left the main auditorium for a significant chunk of the show.
“Timothee and Kylie were replaced by seat fillers for an hour,” a source told the newspaper. “It seems like he had enough of being the butt of the jokes.
“They only came back just before the Best Actress and Best Actor categories were announced.”
After the ceremony, Chalamet and Jenner reportedly went to the Vanity Fair afterparty, where they were joined by Jenner’s family.
“Timothée was swarmed by well-wishers as he arrived,” the source continued. “He kept his sunglasses on for most of the night and tried to be low-key, but he stood out like a sore thumb in his white suit.
“Kylie and him stayed for a while but then left together without being seen. It was the Irish exit he wanted – and needed.”
