Gemma Bissix as Clare Bates in EastEnders / BBC
Gemma Bissix is reportedly making another return to EastEnders as Clare Bates for the funeral of adoptive father Nigel (Paul Bradley).
Clare returned to Walford briefly earlier this year in order to visit Nigel, who has been battling dementia, in hospital.
In scenes to be broadcast next week, Nigel finally succumbs to his illness and, according to The Sun, Clare will be back soon afterwards to pay her respects.
“It proved so popular that bosses are bringing her back again,” a source told the newspaper. “It will be in heartbreaking circumstances as Nigel is set to die next week in emotional scenes.
“Gemma’s return as Clare became an unexpected success. There’s always a danger that fans will have moved on, but her comeback proved a real high point for EastEnders followers.
“It was only originally for a short stint but bosses couldn’t not bring her back again for Nigel’s funeral. There won’t be a dry eye in the house.”
Bissix also recently reprised her role as Clare Devine on Hollyoaks, although her character seemingly died after being pushed off a cliff into the sea.
