Mikey North has signed a new deal keeping him on Coronation Street as Gary Windass for at least another year.
The news means that the actor, who joined the soap in November 2008, will take his time on the cobbles to at least 18 years.
Gary has been largely in the background for much of the last year but is now centre of a storyline that saw him viciously beaten and left in a coma in hospital.
Meanwhile, a mystery woman is claiming to hospital staff that she is his wife and he is in fact called Chesney rather than Gary.
“Mikey loves working at Coronation Street and bosses love having him so it was a no brainer for him to sign for another year recently,” a source told The Sun.
“Gary’s got a huge year coming up and it’s all just kicked off on screen and it’s just the beginning.
“There’s going to be a lot of Mikey on screens in the coming months.”
Further revelations in Gary’s current plotline are expected this week and next as his real wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) tries desperately to locate him.
