Malcolm-Jamal Warner in The Cosby Show / NBC
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role in the seminal sitcom The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54.
The actor, who played Theodore Huxtable, son of Bill Cosby’s character, is said to have accidentally drowned while swimming in Costa Rica.
Warner was on holiday with his family and swimming in the waters of Cahuita when a strong current pulled him out into the ocean.
Beachgoers were able to rescue Warner and bring him ashore, where he was attended to by medics but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Reacting to the news, Cosby, who has faced allegations of sexual assault in recent years, told 6ABC: “You could depend on Malcolm always going to uh the shelter, to learn his lines, to gather his character to come out and be ready.
“When the news came, it was shocking. And of course, my thoughts went straight to his mother, who worked so hard. She was so wonderful with him.”
Warner is survived by one daughter.
