How did you react when you found out you would be taking part in this year’s show?
“The waits between the stages of the application are so long that at every stage I thought that I was just waiting for a rejection call, so every single time I got to the next round it was a joyful surprise. It was a dream, but when it actually happened, I was in shock. I never actually believed it until I was there – even now I still don’t believe it (still waiting for someone to pinch me!!!)”
As a group, what are this year’s bakers like?
“Absolutely amazing, open and some of the most genuine people I have ever met. I was so worried about meeting them but I don’t think I could have a better bunch of people. We met in the hotel and I was the last person there because I was late. I remember walking in and being so overwhelmed because there were so many faces and I was just thinking what the actual heck is going on. I remember sitting on a table with Gabe and Nikki, from the first time I met those two we have been up to no good.”
Do you have any standout memories from episode one?
“I think the thing that stood out to me from the first episode is my over-salted coffee and walnut cake. I think the whole idea of making the coffee and walnut cake, which is one of my mum’s favourites, was a very lovely start to the tent.”
Describe your baking style in three words!
“Innovative, precise, nostalgic.”
The Great British Bake Off returns Tuesday, September 22 at 8pm on Channel 4.
