Lil Nas X is in a rehab clinic for treatment following his arrest last month in Los Angeles.
The 26-year-old rapper was apprehended by police after they received reports of a man walking naked down the middle of a major road – and as part of the arrest he is accused of charging at several officers and assaulting one of them.
Nas has pleaded not guilty to those charges – which could come with a jail term of up to five years – but was absent from a hearing on the matter on Monday as he is in rehab in an undisclosed out-of-state location.
Judge Shellie Samuels approved of the rehab plans, adding that if the star’s “treatment changes, and he becomes outpatient, then we’ll talk”.
Speaking afterwards, the musician’s lawyer Drew Findling told media: “You heard the ‘treatment’ word. We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his wellbeing.
“He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. And we’re just addressing those issues. It’s really as simple as that. He’s had a great life, and he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s going to get over.”
The next court date has been scheduled for November 18.
