Ava Webster has confirmed that she will shortly be exiting her role as transgender teen Ro Hutchinson on Hollyoaks.
The actress took over the role in 2023 and earned plaudits for her portrayal of Ro’s transition and the subsequent storyline that saw him being severely abused over his gender.
Webster will shortly be leaving the show, however, with a transgender actor – 17-year-old actor Leo Cole – taking her place.
“I knew I couldn’t do it anymore with Ro transitioning – I can’t make that commitment,” Webster told Metro.
“Not only that, but it’s also the right of a trans person to take on that role, because they’ve genuinely experienced this stuff, and I haven’t. I’ve done what I could with it, but now is the right time in my opinion.”
Cole’s first scenes will air later this month.
