Alan Carr for The Celebrity Traitors S01E05 / BBC
Alan Carr has suggested that he would not take up an offer to host Strictly Come Dancing if approached over fears that he may “ruin” the show.
The BBC is currently in the process of looking to hire two replacements for long-standing Strictly presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who recently revealed that the current series will be their last.
Following his huge popularity as a participant on The Celebrity Traitors, Carr’s name has been thrown into the ring for one of the top hosting jobs on British TV.
“My name is in the hat,” he told The Mirror. “What an honour. It’s a bit like when my name got bandied about for Britain’s Got Talent and The Great British Bake Off – I’m always on the periphery.
“I don’t know how serious it is. No-one has approached me. People are so passionate about it and you saw me sweating in the castle when I was a Traitor, imagine me doing live telly with how many million people watching!”
He continued: “So many things have come from The Celebrity Traitors – so many job offers coming in – I’d be flattered, but I don’t know if I could do [Strictly] justice. I just don’t want to ruin it for people.”
The BBC has yet to confirm a timeframe for announcing the new hosts ahead of the new series, which is not due to start until September 2026.
