Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone / 20th Century Fox
Macaulay Culkin has divulged an idea he has for a plot that could see him return for a new Home Alone movie.
The actor gained global fame as a 10-year-old in 1990 when he appeared in the classic Christmas movie as Kevin McCallister, a cheeky youngster who is accidentally left behind at home when his family go on holiday.
Culkin reprised the role for a 1992 but then left the franchise, which continued with a further four films – most of which were made for TV.
According to Variety, talking on his new tour A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin, the now-45-year-old said: “I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff.
“I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”
Culkin added that as part of the plot, Kevin would have to “get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”
The most recent film in the franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone, was released in November 2021 via Disney+.
