Jack P Shepherd has reportedly inked a new deal to remain as David Platt on Coronation Street for at least another year.
The actor took over the role as a 12-year-old in April 2000 and has been a firm fixture on the cobbles ever since as a key member of the iconic Platt family.
Shepherd’s popularity was highlighted earlier this year when he won Celebrity Big Brother and according to The Sun, producers acted soon afterwards to extend his contract through 2026.
“Jack’s contract normally starts in November but bosses signed him up early to make sure he stays on the show,” a source told the newspaper.
“He’s a massive fan favourite and I think a lot of people were worried he did CBB and would leave – but Jack always tells everyone the show is like family to him, he wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”
The news suggests that David will not be one of the characters killed off in Corriedale, the upcoming soaps mash-up due to air on January 5.
