Sky has confirmed the relaunch of Sky One as its flagship entertainment channel, four-and-a-half years after it was dropped.
The station operated from 1989 and was home to Sky’s biggest shows, including The Simpsons, but was axed in September 2021 in favour of a new entertainment channel called Sky Max and a ‘best’ of channel called Sky Showcase featuring programming from across the wider Sky portfolio.
Both Sky Max and Sky Showcase will close down on Tuesday, February 24 to make way for Sky One, which will ‘bring together a rich slate of entertainment in one place’.
“Our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sky TV customers to find and enjoy the shows they love,” explained Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV & NOW.
“Building on the iconic heritage of Sky One, the channel will be a one-of-a-kind destination that’s big, bold and bursting with energy, bringing together brand-new Sky Originals like The Dyers’ Caravan Park, returning favourites such as Rob & Romesh Vs., and serving as the home of the highly anticipated Saturday Night Live UK.”
As a result of the changes, the channel lineup will undergo a minor reshuffle on Sky platforms:
- On Sky Q: Sky One replaces Sky Showcase on 106, Sky Comedy moves to channel 113, Sky Documentaries moves to channel 114, Sky Crime moves to channel 121, Sky Arts moves to channel 122, Challenge moves to 130 and Sky Sci-Fi moves to channel 145
- On Sky Glass and Sky Stream: Sky One replaces Sky Showcase on 106, Sky Comedy moves to channel 109, Sky Documentaries moves to channel 110, Sky Crime moves to channel 111, Sky Arts moves to channel 112, Challenge moves to channel 116 and Sky Sci-Fi moves to channel 114
