Brooke Vincent has admitted that she is unsure whether she will return to Coronation Street as Sophie Webster in the future.
The actress began playing the part since 2004, when she was just 11 years old, but left the soap in 2019 to go on maternity leave.
Vincent then extended her leave amid the coronavirus pandemic and went on to have a second child, ultimately failing to return to the soap – with Sophie’s absence explained by her continuing to travel around Asia.
Last year it emerged that Vincent had joined Hollyoaks in the role of school teacher Abigail Matthews, seemingly ruling out a Corrie return – although that storyline has taken a dark twist as the character has recently begun grooming one of her female students.
Vincent’s potential exit from Hollyoaks has not been announced, although the nature of the storyline suggests that the role could be finite – paving the way for a future Corrie return, potentially in 2027 to coincide with the impending loss of Sophie’s aunt Debbie (Sue Devaney).
“I don’t know. I’m not sure,” Vincent told Radio Times of a possible comeback.
“I think, obviously, at the minute, it’s you know, it’s British television, and I think you know, Hollyoaks is as iconic as Corrie, and I think it’s the characters that obviously I miss.”
She added: “I miss Sophie Webster, but at the minute I’m having a ball playing Abigail.”
Helen Flanagan, who plays Vincent’s on-screen sister Rosie Webster, has also made no secret of the fact that she would like to return to the cobbles.
