Cassie on Coronation Street on August 3, 2026 / ITV
Claire Sweeney has revealed that she is keen to reprise her role of Cassie Plummer in Coronation Street at some point in the future.
After three years with the soap, the actress’s final scenes will play out on screen next week as Cassie leaves Weatherfield to take up a cleaning job on a cruise ship.
Sweeney made the tough decision to leave in order to take up her dream job of playing Miss Hannigan in a UK and Ireland tour of Annie The Musical, which runs until at least March 2027.
“I would love to come back,” she admitted. “There was no other reason for me to leave other than getting the part of Miss Hannigan.
“I was genuinely so happy at Corrie. I loved the work, the people, and the routine—it really is like a family. I only left because a project I’ve been working toward for 15 years finally came to fruition, and I simply couldn’t turn it down.
“I made sure to speak to our lovely producer, Kate [Brooks], six or seven months in advance, so the team had plenty of time to craft a proper exit. I think that planning really shows in the story.”
New episodes of Coronation Street are released weekdays at 7am on ITVX and air the same night at 8.30pm on ITV1.
