Sally Ann Matthews has reportedly filmed her final scenes as Jenny Connor on Coronation Street.
Earlier this year it emerged that the character had been axed by producers – 39 years after she first appeared as the wayward teen daughter of the villainous Alan Bradley (Mark Eden).
Catherine Tyldesley has since been confirmed to be returning as Eva Price, who will take over Jenny’s former role as landlady of the Rovers Return in October.
Jenny’s exit will seem to come around the same time as Eva’s Weatherfield comeback, with The Sun saying that Matthews has now left Manchester and moved back to London with her family.
“Sal wanted a lowkey exit,” a source told the newspaper. “She said her goodbyes and has now left Manchester. She was filming her exit when news about her axing first came to light.
“Once she’d finished she wasted no time packing up her life in Manchester and moving straight back to London.
“She had a flat in Manchester where she would stay while working but she’s given that up now.
“She didn’t want a big leaving do or anything and just wanted to leave as quickly as she could. She filmed her final scenes and was gone.”
Having left her role as Jenny in the early ’90s, Matthews made a surprise comeback to Corrie in 2015 and became a key character over the following decade.
