Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has issued a statement following the death of her ex-boyfriend Ricky Hatton.
The 46-year-old boxing legend was discovered dead at his home near Manchester on Sunday in what police described as non-suspicious circumstances.
Sweeney – Cassie on the cobbles – entered into a relationship with Hatton, a friend of 25 years, after they both appeared on the 2024 edition of Dancing On Ice and they remained close after they split last December.
Taking to Instagram, Sweeney wrote: “I’ve needed a few days to process the devastating news about my dear friend Ricky.
“My thoughts are with his family especially his children Campbell, Millie Fearne and Lyla, his granddaughter. To them, Speaky and to all his friends who loved him so deeply and for so many years I send you my deepest sympathy.
“Ricky, you were the people’s champ. We adored and cherished you. Love you always.”
