Gary in hospital in Coronation Street in July 2025 / ITV
Gary Windass (Mikey North) will be left in a coma fighting for his life as part of a new Coronation Street storyline.
Amid blackmail from Lou (Farrel Hegarty), Gary left Weatherfield earlier this month, supposedly to stay with his mother for a while – but wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) is now worried after he failed to return home for her son Liam’s (Charlie Wrenshall) birthday.
In tomorrow’s episode, Gary will be seen lying unconscious in a hospital bed – and after Maria reports Gary missing to policeman Kit (Jacob Roberts), they learn about an unidentified coma patient.
Kit tells her that it isn’t Gary, however – as in a further twist, the mystery attacker has changed Gary’s name and claimed to be his next of kin.
“Maria and Gary are going through a bit of a rough patch at the minute and initially she’s upset that he’s left but doesn’t think too much into it,” explained Longchambon.
“As soon as Gary misses Liam’s birthday, she has a gut feeling that something isn’t right and fears something awful might have happened to him.
“Maria’s mind is spiralling, but she doesn’t stop for a second to think who actually attacked Gary, she’s aware he has a lot of enemies from over the years who could have potentially wanted to take revenge on him.”
This episode of Coronation Street is released on ITVX at 7am on Friday, June 27, also airing that night at 8pm on ITV1.
