Carl on Coronation Street on June 15, 2026 / ITV
Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard has suggested that he will remain on the soap as Carl Webster for the foreseeable future.
Arriving in Weatherfield in April 2025, Carl was said to be the half-brother of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie (Sue Devaney) – although earlier this year it was actually revealed that Debbie is his mother.
Carl has been somewhat of a villain during his time on the street – having an affair that ended Kevin’s marriage, blamed dementia-stricken mother Debbie for a fatal car crash and carrying out a hit-and-run on Tyrone (Alan Halsall).
Speculation has been rife that Carl could soon depart the cobbles, having burned almost all of his bridges, but Howard has now hinted that he could be around for the remainder of Debbie’s storyline, which is due to run until at least 2027.
“The writers have done a really good job of making him more complex,” he told The Mirror. “He’s not just a bad guy who rips people off and likes sex.
“I’ve tried to give him a heart and some humour and to explore his relationship with his mum. I think we’d be missing out on something for Carl to leave before he’s come to terms with his mum’s dementia diagnosis.
“I would at least like to stay until we see what happens to Debbie. Then we’ll see what happens after that.”
New episodes of Coronation Street are released weekdays at 7am on ITVX and air the same night at 8.30pm on ITV1.
