Mollie Galagher as Nina Lucas on Coronation Street in March 2021 / ITV
Mollie Gallagher is to leave her role as Nina Lucas on Coronation Street after almost seven years, it has emerged.
The character – Corrie’s first full-time goth – first appeared on the soap in November 2019 when she moved in with her newly-discovered uncle Roy Cropper (David Neilson) after her dad died.
According to Digital Spy, Gallagher chose to leave the cobbles after landing the part of Clarice – a role originally made famous by Jodie Foster – in a new UK and Ireland touring production of The Silence of the Lambs.
A Corrie spokesperson told the website: “Mollie has created a unique and well-loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go.
“It is fantastic for Mollie that she has been given this incredible opportunity to play such an iconic role and we wish her all the best for the theatre tour.”
Gallagher has already finished filming, with her final scenes due to play out late next month.
