Olivia Frances-Brown has reportedly signed a new one-year deal to remain on Coronation Street as Jodie Ramsey despite huge fan backlash against the character.
The actress made her debut as Jodie – estranged sister of Shona (Julia Goulding) – in the Corriedale crossover special in January and has since gone on to become a regular on the cobbles.
Over the course of the year Jodie has caused no end of chaos for the Platt family and the wider Weatherfield residents – including manipulation, theft, gaslighting, bullying children and even committing GBH on Shona’s sister-in-law.
The seemingly-improbable plotlines and the erratic nature of the character have drawn sharp criticism from Corrie’s online fanbase, but according to The Sun, producers have nonetheless decided to make Jodie a mainstay.
The newspaper says that execs “have been so impressed with her that they’ve convinced her to stay put by giving her a new contract”.
A source added: “Olivia has been a huge hit with the cast and crew as well as the bosses.”
The Jodie-Shona storyline is due to hit boiling point in next week’s episodes as a heated showdown ends with someone being shot by a gun.
