Sally Ann Matthews as Jenny Connor in Coronation Street / ITV
Coronation Street veteran Sally Ann Matthews has described her latest stint on the soap as “the best time” ahead of her upcoming exit.
The actress first played the part of Jenny Connor – née Bradley – from 1986 to 1991, returning in 2015 as a main cast member.
Having recently lost The Rovers, however, Jenny will shortly be departing Weatherfield as a new family headed up by Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) take over the iconic pub.
Speaking to Bolton News, Matthews admitted: “After being held hostage four times, losing the love of her life every October for three years on the trot, I think Jenny has been through enough!
“I had the best time creating a character that could be absolutely bonkers and over the top, to sensitive and vulnerable. There aren’t many jobs where you get to play a wide range of emotions – often in the same scene!
“We have the best crew in the business, and at Trafford Wharf Rd, you laugh from the minute you walk in the building.”
Jenny’s final scenes are expected to play out later this year.
