Joel on EastEnders on August 28, 2025 / BBC
Max Murray will reportedly leave his role as troubled teen Joel Marshall on EastEnders in the coming weeks.
The 18-year-old joined the soap in March as the son of Ross (Alex Walkinshaw), who moved to the Square along with girlfriend Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig).
For months viewers have seen Joel become increasingly indoctrinated by the misogynistic ramblings of an online influencer – and his corresponding behaviour towards the females of Walford has grown more disturbing.
The storyline took a terrifying turn last week when Joel viciously attacked Vicki while filming his abuse – and he was subsequently arrested after his dad found the incriminating footage.
According to Metro, the plot is now nearing its conclusion and Joel will be seen on screen for the final time in a matter of weeks.
A source told the publication: “Max is leaving EastEnders following an incredible year. There’s still lots to come in the weeks ahead that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
“Following his spellbinding performance, there’s no doubt that producers will be keen to snap him up – and Max is already on the lookout for his next role.”
EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays from 6am on iPlayer and at 7.30pm on BBC One.
