Tony Caunter and Pam St Clement as Roy and Pat on EastEnders / BBC
EastEnders legend Pam St Clement has paid tribute to her long-time co-star Tony Caunter following the actor’s death at the age of 88.
Caunter, who played Roy Evans – husband of St Clement’s Pat – from 1994 to 2003, died just eight days after the passing of his wife of 63 years Fran, his family said.
In a statement issued via her agent, St Clement said: “I am very saddened to hear of Tony’s passing.
“He was not only a lovely man, but a true gentleman to work with.”
Shaun Williamson, who played Roy’s son Barry Evans, wrote on Instagram: “I am very saddened to hear of Tony’s passing. He was not only a lovely man, but a true gentleman to work with.
“RIP Tony Caunter. He was like a second father to me and taught me so much about acting and life.
“A great actor and a great man. I will miss him so much.”
Caunter is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
