Himesh Patel as Tamwar Masood in EastEnders / BBC
Former EastEnders actor Himesh Patel has been cast in the David Duchovny role in the upcoming revival of The X-Files.
The cult ’90s show is returning to screens more than 30 years after its debut, with a new duo taking over from Mulder and Scully – played by Duchovny and Gillian Anderson – as FBI agents tasked with investigating paranormal phenomena.
Danielle Deadwyler was previously announced as the female lead, and now her Station Eleven co-star Patel, who played Tamwar Masood on EE from 2007 to 2016, has been named as her opposite number.
An official description for the show reads: “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
Ryan Coogler, Oscar-winning director of films including Black Panther, Sinners and Creed, is overseeing the project, with creator Chris Carter on board as an executive producer.
Hulu has given a pilot order to the revival, after which a decision will be made on whether to take the show to a full series.
