Emmerdale is to feature its own on-screen Ladies’ Darts Team for the first time, it has been announced.
Due to the surge in popularity in darts in the UK over the last few years – dubbed ‘the Luke Littler effect’ – the village is launching its own competitive team, based out of the Woolpack.
The founding members are Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick), Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) and Mary (Louise Jameson), a trio that will soon be rounded out by fourth member Claudette (Flo Wilson), who boasts “an acerbic wit and deadly throw”.
Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper explained: “We had heard local darts teams, particularly those made up of women, were springing up across Yorkshire. It felt right that the ladies of Emmerdale would mirror this by setting up their own pub darts team.
“With fewer people heading out mid-week, many rural pubs are finding times tough. These teams, much like pub quizzes, are a fantastic way of encouraging people back in to socialise face-to-face. And the Woolpack like other village pubs is a vital rural community hub.”
The new team will make their debut in next week’s episodes.
