Nick Miles has reportedly been axed from his role as Jimmy King on Emmerdale after 22 years.
The fan-favourite character, who arrived alongside other members of the King family in 2004, is the long-suffering husband of Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) and the ex-husband of Sadie (Patsy Kensit), who is returning this year.
In a shock twist, Jimmy will be brutally killed off in a storyline that is thought to be connected to Sadie’s village comeback after two decades.
“Everyone is shocked and it shows that no one is safe from the budget cuts,” a source told The Sun.
“Bosses are under pressure to cut costs and sadly that means popular cast members being told their time is up.
“Once the decision was made that Nick would be leaving, the writers quickly realised his character wouldn’t abandon his wife and children so they had to kill him off.
“That’s what made them approach Patsy about returning.”
Miles is expected to film his final scenes in the coming weeks.
