Alex Fletcher has quit her role as Diane Hutchinson on Hollyoaks after 16 years.
The 49-year-old, who previously played Jacqui Dixon on Brookside from 1990 to 2003, joined Hollyoaks in September 2010, quickly becoming one of the soap’s key characters.
One of the key storylines during Diane’s time in the village has been her marriage to Tony Hutchinson – played by OG cast member Nick Pickard, as well as her battles with OCD and alcoholism.
“Alex is one of the show’s most popular characters both on and off screen – everyone just adores her,” a source told The Sun.
“She has been at the heart of Hollyoaks alongside Nick for more than a decade and bosses are gutted she’s leaving.
“But they are doing everything they came to come up with a memorable and fitting exit for her much-loved character.”
Fletcher is expected to film her final scenes “in the coming months”, suggesting that Diane will last be seen on screen in the Summer.
