Alex Fletcher’s Hollyoaks character Diane Hutchinson is to be killed off in a rapid-moving cancer storyline, it has emerged.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Fletcher would be departing the Channel 4 soap after almost 16 years in the role in what was described at the time as “a memorable and fitting” exit.
Fans had assumed that the door would be left open for a possible future return but it has now been confirmed that Diane will die from an aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
A source told The Sun: “It’s going to be absolutely devastating to watch.
“Diane is one of the soap’s most beloved characters and her cancer battle and ultimate death will have everyone in tears. It’s going to be a hard watch for fans.”
Hollyoaks streams Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7am on Channel 4 streaming and airs at 7pm on E4.
