Rory Douglas-Speed has left his role as Joel Dexter on Hollyoaks after almost nine years.
The actor took over the role of Warren Fox’s (Jamie Lomas) son from Andrew Still in 2016 and survived the show’s mass cull last Autumn.
Now he has quit the soap, The Sun says, confirming that the scenes of him in prison earlier this month were his last for the time being.
“It was a tough decision for him to make to leave, but it’s right for the character and for Rory himself,” a source said.
“He’s loved the last nine years and all that has come with Hollyoaks, but he really wants to spread his wings.
“And the time is right. Bosses were very kind and the door has been left open for Joel to return one day so it’s not goodbye by any means.”
Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 7am on Channel 4 and airs at 7pm on E4.
