Pete Pittaros, star of the cult gay documentary Greek Pete, has died at the age of 43.
Released in 2009, the film followed the life of Pittaros as he worked as a male gay escort in London’s Soho and contemplated leaving the industry.
The movie was the first feature-length project from filmmaker Andrew Haigh, who has since gone on to produce Weekend, All of Us Strangers and the HBO series Looking.
News of Pittaros’s death was announced by his sister Annika Pittaros, who revealed that he will be laid to rest in Larnaca next week.
She wrote on Instagram: “We are absolutely devastated to let everyone know our precious son, brother and uncle Peter Pittaros passed away 23rd July 2026 in Santa Barbara, California after a short illness with Encephalitis.
“Peter was an amazing inspiration to many and loved very dearly by his friends, family and everyone he met.
“His kindness, warmth, and unforgettable spirit touched countless lives. We miss you so much, Peter.
“The funeral will take place on 1st September at 4pm at St Catherine’s Church, Timiou Prodromou, Dromolaxia, Larnaca, 7020, followed by the wake at Timiou Prodromou Church (which is across the road).”
