Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday / Disney
Universal has ordered a movie reboot of Murder, She Wrote with Jamie Lee Curtis taking on the iconic Jessica Fletcher role.
The original, which starred the late Dame Angela Lansbury as amateur sleuth/crime writer Fletcher, ran for 12 seasons and four TV movies between 1984 and 2003.
Rumours of a reboot have been rife for several years – and in 2013, a proposed series with Octavia Spencer as the lead was cancelled before making it to air.
Universal resurrected the concept in 2023 and now Oscar-winner Curtis has been confirmed as the lead, with Pitch Perfect‘s Jason Moore directing and Dumb Money duo Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo writing.
Plot details and further casting have yet to be revealed, although a provisional release date has been confirmed for December 22, 2027.
