M3GAN 2.0 / Universal
M3GAN spinoff SOULM8TE has been given an ‘R’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).
The film follows a man who decides to purchase an android, played by Lily Sullivan, to help him cope following the loss of his recently-deceased wife.
As he attempts to make the android more sentient, however, he inadvertently turns the harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
The film was originally due for release at the start of January but was pulled from the schedules at the last minute while the studio sought a new distributor to replace Universal Pictures.
The MPAA has now rated SOULM8TE as ‘R’, meaning that those aged under 17 need to be accompanied by an appropriate adult to watch the film in cinemas.
The listing reads: “Rated R for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, and language.”
Despite the rating, a revised release date for the movie has yet to be confirmed.
