UK and Ireland Box Office: The Odyssey makes huge debut

Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey made a mammoth opening at the UK and Ireland Box Office over the weekend to surge to the top spot.

The movie – an adaptation of Homer’s classic greek poem – boasts an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.

With ticket sales of £12.57m, The Odyssey ranked as the biggest Friday opening of the year to date, Universal’s fifth largest opener ever and the biggest ever opening weekend at Waterloo’s BFI IMAX.

Toy Story 5 maintained second spot on the chart, adding £1.66m for a total of £45.31m after five weeks, while Moana dropped from top spot to third for a two-week total of £5.55m.
