Chris Brown 2025 press shot
American R&B singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month suspended sentence for an incident in a UK nightclub almost four years ago.
The 37-year-old had pleaded guilty to the charge of affray after assaulting a former friend in Tape nightclub, in London’s Mayfair, in February 2023.
Brown was accused of attacking the man several times with a tequila bottle in a “frenzied” 20-second attack.
Judge Tony Baumgartner said today: “You, Brown, were holding a tequila bottle in your right hand, when you reached Diaw you struck him to the left side of his head whilst holding his hood.
“The repeated use of a glass bottle in that way, especially aimed at the head, was plainly dangerous, it carried the risk of delivering a more serious injury than was ultimately sustained.”
He added: “I take account of your employment and long-established career in music. Your fame, commercial success and professional standing do not entitle you to special treatment. The law applies equally to everyone.”
The eight-month sentence is suspended for a period of a year, meaning that he will receive no further comeback unless he reoffends within the next 12 months.
Posting to his Instagram Stories account after leaving the court, Brown was seen being driven away in his car offering a thumbs up to the camera.
