Lord Sugar for The Apprentice S20 / BBC
Vanessa Tetteh-Squire has been given the snip by Lord Sugar in this week’s flower-themed episode of The Apprentice.
In a nod to the first ever task from the first ever series, Lord Sugar challenged the remaining candidates to buy and sell bouquets of flowers to the public, in addition to selling a showstopping flower piece to a corporate client.
Vanessa put herself forward to lead Team Alpha and went down the tropical flowers route – despite their cost price being among the highest.
Meanwhile, Rothna Akhtar became PM of Team Eclipse and chose a country garden theme, fleshing out the bouquets with cheaper foliage.

Ultimately the task proved to be a one-sided affair, with Rothna’s Eclipse both spending less and earning more to record an impressive profit of £2,172, compared to a profit of just £564.59 for Vanessa’s Alpha.
In the boardroom, Vanessa chose to bring back Pascha Myhill, blaming her for pushing for more expensive flowers, and Lawrence Rosenberg for his role as the sub-team leader.
Lord Sugar was unconvinced by her reasoning, however, telling the Project Manager: “Vanessa, I don’t think you led this team very well at all. Far too much money was spent on flowers and also the manufacturing of the bouquets was a complete and utter joke. On that basis, Vanessa, you’re fired.”
Speaking in the taxi afterwards, Vanessa said: “I took a big risk and put myself up for something I’ve never done before and I’m not regretful about that. I think I’m an amazing person and I think I’ll definitely go far in life.”
The Apprentice continues next Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer with a task that sees the candidates travel to Egypt to put on corporate away days.
