The BBC has confirmed reports that it has axed RuPaul’s Drag Race UK after eight seasons due to budgetary reasons.
The hugely-popular show will continue, however, with a first ever RuPaul’s Drag Race UK All Stars edition debuting on streaming service WOW Presents Plus in Autumn 2027.
The UK version features OG judges RuPaul and Michelle Visage, as well as comedians Alan Carr and Graham Norton, and follows the same format as the US show.
As well as eight seasons of the regular show, the BBC has also aired three seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK versus The World.
A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: “As the BBC continues to navigate significant financial pressures and deliver the savings required of us, we have had to make some very difficult choices, none of which have been taken lightly.
“We can therefore confirm together with World of Wonder, that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be leaving the BBC and moving to WOW Presents Plus.
“The BBC is incredibly proud of all eleven series of this groundbreaking show and we would like to thank RuPaul, World of Wonder and everyone involved, both on and off screen.
“We are certain that viewers will enjoy the eighth series, which is currently airing on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.”
Executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato said: “It has been a pleasure working with everyone at the BBC, and we wish them well.
“While we don’t get to choose when opportunity knocks, we could not be more excited for this new chapter.”
The current season continues Thursdays from 7pm on iPlayer and at 9pm on BBC Three.
