Eurovision Song Contest - Burgas 2027 / EBU
Burgas has beaten off competition from Bulgarian capital Sofia to host the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Bulgaria is staging next year’s contest in May following the triumph of Dara with ‘Bangaranga’ in Vienna earlier this year, handing the country their first ever win.
Burgas and Sofia made the final two in the shortlist to host in 2027, with the former being selected by the European Broadcasting Union and local broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
Situated on the Black Coast, Burgas is the fourth-largest city in Bulgaria and has a population of approximately 226,000 people, while the Arena Burgas – the chosen host venue – has a capacity of 15,000.
“It is an exceptional honour for us to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027,” said Dimitar Nikolov, the mayor of Burgas. “I would like to thank BNT and the EBU for their trust. The entire Burgas region is part of our team – our municipalities, institutions, universities, schools, cultural organisations, artists, volunteers and local businesses.
“This is not about one city hosting Eurovision. This is Bulgaria hosting Eurovision – an entire community, united and inspired. Our goal is for Europe to experience Bulgaria through Burgas.”
ESC director Martin Green added: “Burgas brings something really special to the Eurovision Song Contest. It is a vibrant, welcoming city on the Black Sea with a strong musical and cultural identity, and it has the ambition, infrastructure and passion needed to welcome the Eurovision family.
“For the first Eurovision Song Contest ever to be held in Bulgaria, we want to create something that feels truly Bulgarian while also being unmistakably Eurovision – a celebration that brings people together through music.
“Together with BNT, the City of Burgas and our partners across Bulgaria, we are looking forward to creating an unforgettable Eurovision week in May and welcoming the world to Burgas.”
Tickets for the contest are expected to go on sale later this year.
