Jack P Shepherd for Celebrity Big Brother 2025 / ITV
ITV has decided not to bring back Celebrity Big Brother this year but insists that it remains “committed” to the show.
Since the broadcaster revived the Big Brother franchise, the celeb spinoff has aired for two series in 2024 and 2025, won by David Potts and Jack P Shepherd respectively.
Last year ITV’s MD of entertainment, Kevin Lygo, revealed that Celeb BB would move to ITV2 for the 2026 edition and also admitted that he was in “a battle” with production company Endemol about the show’s budget.
Now, as first reported by The Sun, ITV has taken the decision to drop the planned 2026 series entirely, although the regular civilian version is still expected to air this Autumn.
“Despite announcing the programme was moving from ITV1 to sister channel ITV2, fans were still expecting another series this year,” a source told the newspaper.
“Executives also confirmed it wouldn’t be returning to the March/April air date it’s had for the last two seasons, and instead would have to go out in late 2026.
“So the latest development is likely to rock devotees when they realise it will be almost two years between series, which is relatively unusual for a big ITV show. It does also raise questions over CBB‘s long-term future.”
An ITV spokesperson said: “We are committed to both Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother beyond 2025, and scheduling for any new series will be confirmed in due course. The show remains a priority reality format for us.”
ITV is also thought to have axed companion show Big Brother: Late & Live ahead of the next series.
