Virgin Island season one / Channel 4
Channel 4 could reportedly axe Virgin Island following the recent controversy surrounding Married At First Sight UK.
Earlier this year multiple former participants on MAFS alleged that they had been sexually assaulted by their partners during filming of the show.
The claims prompted Channel 4 to launch a thorough investigation into the production, axe previous series of the show from its on-demand service and indefinitely postpone the premiere of the next series, which was filmed earlier this year.
Now The Sun says that production on another dating show, the sexually-charged Virgin Island, has been halted pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Word spread it was being halted indefinitely,” a show source told the newspaper. “No reason was given and it’s had good ratings.
“So everyone thinks it’s because C4’s still reeling about MAFS. After all, both are highly sexual shows involving the public.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson explained: “Virgin Island series 3 has not yet been [commissioned] because, as has been widely reported, recruitment for our new Director of Programmes is still underway.
“It is only right that outstanding commissioning decisions about big returning series be made once the full team is in place.”
